H4 is the designation for a bulb used in motorcycles. 9003 is the designation for an automotive headlight bulb, and thus, subject to regulation under the provisions of FMVSS108. Physically, most are the same.
Similarly, it is asked, are h4 and 9003 the same?
9003 and H4 bulbs look alike, fit in all the same headlamps, have the same wattage rating and seem to be com- pletely interchangeable, but in some places, the law says that only one or the other type must be used.
Regarding this, what is the difference between hb2 and h4 bulb?
Re: H4 vs HB2 headlights. H4 bulbs are not legal for use in the USA, HB2/9003 bulbs are. The difference is the HB2's have tighter tolerances in the specs. An HB2 bulb meets H4 bulb specs but a H4 doesn't meet HB2/9003specs. You are correct the wiring is the same just add the relays.
