Is icing sugar and icing mixture the same?
Similarly, can I use icing sugar instead of icing sugar mixture?
Pure icing sugar Similar in appearance to the former, is also made from pulverised granulated sugar but contains no cornflour. For everyday cooking, icing sugar mixture does the trick; the only place where pure icing sugar is a must is when making royal icing, modelling fondant and the like.
Thereof, can you use icing mixture for buttercream?
You can use either pure or mixture for buttercream. Pure icing sugar makes the buttercream set a little harder, than icing mixture. Icing mixture doesn't get the lumps in it that pure does. Doesn't make any difference to taste imo.
Icing sugar, as the name suggests, is used in icings, confections, drinks etc. Its fine texture makes icing sugar ideal for dusting over cakes, pies and pastries to sweeten as well as to add an attractive decorative touch. It is also used to make icings and fondants for cakes and sweets such as peppermint creams.
