Does 1 gallon of water make one almond?
Thereof, does it really take a gallon of water to grow one almond?
To grow one almond requires 1.1 gallons of water, and to grow a pound takes 1,900 gal/ lb[1]. One farmer said that almonds really aren't any more thirsty than any of his other crops and shook his head when hearing that one almonds takes a gallon to produce.
Thereof, how much water does an almond use?
Or maybe it was in February, when a headline in Mother Jones blared, “It takes how much water to grow an almond?!” (Profoundly misleading answer: 1.1 gallons per nut.)
According to Capitalism is Freedom, it takes 1.1 gallons of water to produce a single almond, or about which would translate to about 460 gallons of water per pound of almonds. In turn, it takes about two pounds of almonds to make one gallon of Almond Milk, or 920 gallons of water.
