Generally, fish mongers will not clean the sardines for you because it would really take up too much of their time. I would just feel bad, even if they did offer because I usually buy at least 6 at a time. The process may seem daunting but once you clean two, it almost becomes meditative.
Similarly, it is asked, do you have to clean sardines?
Do I need to gut the sardines before I cook them? If you are cooking them whole as in the photo, then you do not need to gut them. Just rub off the scales with a cloth or paper towel. If they are not too big, you can eat everything, but otherwise they come off the bone easily once cooked.
Likewise, how do they clean sardines?
- Rinse the fresh sardines under cold running tap water.
- Drain the sardines on a piece of kitchen paper.
- Hold the sardine upside down in the palm of one hand.
- Run your thumb along the spine and push out the bloody guts.
- Rinse the inside of the sardine under cold running tap water.
Sardines are not fellayed obviously. So that means all their internal organs are there when you eat it. That includes the intestines So a person is eating fish poop when the eat a sardine because there must still be some poop in the intestines.
