Your dishwasher likely has a broken or disconnected door spring or door link causing the door to be heavy and fall when opened. Your dishwasher uses two door springs and two door links, one spring and door link for each door hinge. You can access the door springs by removing the lower toe panel and access panel.
Keeping this in view, why is dishwasher door suddenly heavy?
The main problem is that the balance link is broken which helps hold the dishwasher door up. When the balance link is broken, the door will fall freely and feel very heavy.
Also question is, how do I adjust the tension on my dishwasher?
To adjust the door spring tensioner for Plastic Tub Models:
- If the door closes too quickly, decrease the spring tension by moving the spring end toward the front of the dishwasher.
- If the door falls open, increase the spring tension by moving the spring end toward the back of the dishwasher.
On may types of integrated dishwasher there are two fixing screws located half way down the side edge of the door (they may be concealed with a plastic cover. By removing these screws the outer door should lift off. You may find there are two further fixing screws at the top of the dishwasher door (on the inside).
