What would cause a bent pushrod?
Just so, what could cause a bent pushrod?
few different of things could cause it, excessive rocker ball or stud wear allows the rocker to slide sideways off the valve stem bending the pushrod. weak valve springs that allows the engine to enter valve float will also cause bent pushrods.
- Remove the valve cover on the affected bank of the engine.
- Wiggle all of the pushrods to determine which rod or rods are bent and mark the rod with a yellow wax marker.
- Remove the rocker arm by removing the rocker arm nut over the bent pushrod -- if the vehicle is equipped with individual rocker arms.
Hereof, how do you know if you have a bent pushrod?
It does NOT work when shifting down. So, shifting down at too high of a speed/rev can bend the pushrods.
The symptoms you describe mean any/all of the following
- Bent pushrods.
- Broken rocker, needle bearings have fallen out.
- Bent valves.
- Broken valve spring.
Bent Valves The most common failure of valves is bending or breaking as a result of contact with the pistons. The valves contacting the top of a piston is due to incorrect engine synchronization caused by timing chain/belt breakage and incorrect fitting of new belts and chains.
