What is a side loading garage?

A side-load garage requires a larger plot of land to allow for a car to pull into the driveway. A side-load garage can also be very welcoming as you have more opportunity for landscaping in the front of your home. Also, when guests park in your driveway, they won't be blocking the front of your house.
Simply so, how much room do you need for a side entry garage?
Side-Entry Garage. A driveway designed for access to a side-entry garage should allow enough room to easily move your vehicles in and out of the garage. We recommend a minimum distance of 30 feet from the garage door to the edge of the pavement, and a distance of 35 feet or more is ideal.
Keeping this in consideration, which side of house should Garage be on?
I'd prefer a garage on the north side of a house and lots of windows on the south end of the house. Garage on the east or west would be ok, in that order.
