What happens when you feed raccoons?
Thereof, is it a bad idea to feed raccoons?
I highly recommend against feeding raccoons, either on purpose, or by accident, such as via pet food or open garbage cans. In some cases of agressive raccoon feeding, I've seen full-on raccoon infestations with dozens of needy animals fighting for scraps.
Keeping this in consideration, why feeding raccoons is bad?
Don't feed raccoons: This causes them to lose their fear of humans, and also increases their chance of being hit by a car or trapped and killed.
I really wouldn't. Raccoons are wild animals. Besides, even if it never attacks you, a raccoon that is friendly with one human will often be friendly with others. Other people may interpret their friendliness as aggressiveness, and the wild animal in question could end up being put down.
