Deficiency needs are basic needs arising from being deprived of something. Growth needs arise as a desire to grow as an individual. According to Maslow's original theory, a person has to fulfill her deficiency needs before she can move on to fulfilling growth needs.

Aesthetic needs - appreciation and search for beauty, balance, form, etc. Self-Actualization needs - realising personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences. Transcendence needs - helping others to achieve self actualization.
