Cheating is not severe to understand. Using Google Translate is cheating without a doubt in this case. But if you were told to write something by yourself and you are using Google to help yourself writing better, there is nothing wrong in it. In any case, it will be hard to detect whether you have cheated or not.
Moreover, can teachers tell if you use Google Translate?
Google Translate is very good with vocabulary, and students are not. On the other hand, if a student learns a new word outside of class, they will probably use it carefully. Google Translate will not.
Keeping this in consideration, how do I stop students using Google Translate?
Keeping Students Away From Google Translate
- Make Expectations Clear. Clearly communicate what you will and won't allow students to do.
- Explain Limitations of Translators.
- Promote Good Tools.
- Personalize The Curriculum.
- Anticipate and De-incentivize Cheating.
- Flip Your Classroom.
- Use Higher Order Thinking Skills.
- Open any app. For example, WhatsApp. Highlight the text you want the translation for and then Copy it.
- A Google Translate icon is displayed on the top right within the app. Tap on it for the translation.
- As you can see, the translated version of the message text is displayed with the help of Google Translate.
