How do you know if you have a conscience?

If you know that lying is wrong, you have a conscience. If you know that murder is wrong, you have a conscience. You might lie and feel badly about it - that is your conscience acting. However, you don't have to murder someone to know that it is wrong - your conscience will tell you.

Your conscience is the part of your mind that tells you whether what you are doing is right or wrong. If you have a guilty conscience, you feel guilty about something because you know it was wrong. If you have a clear conscience, you do not feel guilty because you know you have done nothing wrong.
