Does plexiglass have UV protection?
Considering this, is all Plexiglass UV resistant?
Plexiglass, in its most advanced form, provides all of the benefits that museum glass once cornered the market on. With an anti-reflective surface that filters 50-75% of UV rays, it is anti-static and scratch resistant, and is a sound alternative. Plexiglass is light and virtually impossible to break.
Correspondingly, does acrylic protect against UV?
Unlike glass, pure acrylic (PMMA) does not filter ultraviolet (UV) light. Acrylic can transmit UV light down to 300 nm. Standard acrylic, like e.g. Plexiglas, includes an additive to make the acrylic absorb UV light.
Acrylic (Plexiglas®, Lucite®, and Acrylite®) comes from natural gas and is completely inert when in solid form. American-made acrylic does NOT yellow in the sunlight. Witness the protective canopies and bubbles in the World War II bombers- they are still clear after 50 years in the sun!
